Things to Know Before You Travel to Tbilisi (Georgia)

Tbilisi, Georgia Travel Guide

Are you planning a trip to Tbilisi (Georgia)? Here are some useful tips and guidelines that will ease your travel and help you manage your time:
  • Whenever you plan to visit Tbilisi (Georgia), don't miss these places out there:
    • The cable car ride to Narikala Fortress
    • The statue of Kartlis Deda
    • National Botanical Garden
    • Gergeti Trinity Church in Kazbegi
    • Fortress Ananuri
    • Holy Trinity Cathedral (commonly known as Sameba)
    • Funicular ride to Mtatsminda Park (take a ride on the big Ferris Wheel in the park)
    • Vake Park
    • Rustaveli Avenue and Opera House
    • Aragvi River and Zhinvali water reservoir.
    • A ride in the metro
  • If you intend to fully explore the sightseeing in old Tbilisi like Kartlis Deda, Narikala Fortress and National Botanical Garden, be ready for a long walk. Sensible shoes are recommended here.
  • It will be hard to find English speakers in Georgia; Russian, however, is widely spoken.
  • If you are a vegetarian, you will get the food like French fries, Mexican potatoes, Khachapuri and Khinkali (stuffed with potatoes) almost everywhere.
A better option for a vegetarian is to visit the Indian restaurant, Maharaja located at 24 Akhvlediani Street | Akhvlediani, Tbilisi 0106, Georgia. But be prepared to wait for a long time as they cook fresh food at the very same time when you give orders for your food.
(Waiting for long for your food is very common in almost every restaurant because they cook fresh food.)
  • Don't ask for cheese omelet until you mean beef. If you are going to order food with cheese, make sure they won't understand it as beef.
    (It already happened with us.)
Tbilisi is a very charming city just like the people who live there. It's sure to be different from any place I've visited before. So, get your backpack ready to visit Georgia. And you will definitely be glad to visit there.
